In collaboration with the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the EBRD has launched the Circular Economy Regional Initiative (CERI) aiming to support investments in the private sector, public sector, and municipal sector in Turkey and Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia, implementing innovative resource-efficient technologies, circular processes, and embracing circular business models. This will be achieved through (i) improving raw material management throughout the entire lifecycle of products and diverting waste from landfills and marine environments, (ii) reducing/preventing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, (iii) eliminating, preventing, and improving the management of harmful chemicals - especially Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and Unintentional Persistent Organic Pollutants (UPOPs).

CERI consists of three components:

Component 1: Implementation of circular performance-based financing (privileged co-financing)

Component 2: Technical Assistance for the adoption of circular technologies, processes, and strategies

Component 3: Monitoring and Evaluation
