Turkey Circular Economy Platform, which offers material exchange opportunities to its member companies through Turkey Materials Marketplace (TMM), continues to support companies in their circular transition. Recently, two member companies of Turkey Materials Marketplace established a successful collaboration.
In the 2020-2021 period, Limak Cement benefited from the “Desk-based review support” which was provided to identify the priority areas of the circular economy, with a specific focus on the primary material exchange opportunities (synergies) based on company’s processes, inputs-outputs and the value chain that the company takes part in.
Polisan Kimya’s concrete waste which was displayed on the TMM platform was one of the opportunities identified in Limak Çimento’s study. As a result of the evaluations, the two companies came together through the TMM and cooperation was established after the completion of the alternative raw material approval process.
With this cooperation, waste concretes that are generated through the production process of concrete chemicals and turn into waste, have begun to be utilized as mineral additives in cement production by Limak Cement.
In line with the principles of circular economy, the material, which is described as waste can be utilized through the industrial symbiosis approach as an input in a different production process and recycled back to the economy, thus preventing resource consumption and waste generation.
