Turkey Materials Marketplace’s first waste transaction is complete!

The 1st waste transaction through the TMM Platform is completed as a result of the outcomes of the Synergy Opportunities Identification Workshop carried out at the 2nd Network Meeting, on December 7.

Anadolu Etap’s fluorescent bulb and toner waste - generated yearly- were sent to a licensed e-waste company, Exitcom Recycling, via the TMM Platform.

Anadolu Etap used to pay licensed companies for the safe disposal of its fluorescent bulb and toner waste. Following the Synergy Opportunities Identification Workshop, it was suggested by the BCSD Turkey team that instead of disposing, Anadolu Etap could recycle their special waste. Already a member of TMM, Anadolu Etap, uploaded the quantity and detailed specifications of the waste to the platform. Another member of TMM, Exitcom, contacted Anadolu Etap and made a proposal for the above mentioned waste.

Benefits of the Transaction

From Anadolu Etap’s point of view, through this transaction via TMM, they not only reduced their costs by eliminating the disposal fees but they also contributed to recycling and efficient use of raw materials. By directing waste to the recycling facility, 26 kg waste toner and 23 waste fluorescent bulbs were recovered respectively by, 95% and 97%. Thus, carbon emissions were prevented, energy savings and environmental benefits were achieved.

Therefore, the first waste transaction on TMM contributed to zero waste targets with a circular economy approach.
